Curriculum

Saplings takes a hands-on, child-led approach to education. Our teachers serve as guides and understand that the principles learned throughout preschool go far beyond learning the "ABC's and 123's." In addition to creating a strong academic foundation, teachers also place a great emphasis on social-emotional development, both of which are foundational to a child leading a happy and fulfilling life.

Over the course of the school year Saplings kids will make major strides, developing skills in the following areas:

  • Math: Examples include counting, sorting, basic equations, and graphing using natural materials such as rocks, leaves, and sticks found during our daily hikes.

  • Literacy: Through dramatic play, rich children's literature, and fun and engaging songs and poetry at circle time.

  • Science: Students will learn and engage in the scientific method. Forming hypothesis and testing their theories.

  • Fine Motor: Through art and meaningful guided activities and free play.

  • Large Motor: Through daily hikes and exploration as well as risky play.

  • Problem Solving: Students are taught to identify the problem and to assess effective and creative solutions to obstacles.

  • Communication: Students will develop their ability to communicate needs and boundaries with others.

  • Self Regulation: Students will learn how to name their emotions and determine how to best move forward with them.

  • Interpersonal:  Students will learn empathy, and how to collaborate with others as a team to accomplish goals.

  • Self Worth: Students will learn that they are valuable members of the community and that they can make a positive impact towards others and the environment.
